Heute stehe ich im Rahmen des TRANSIENT Impulsfestivals wieder vor einer Schulklasse und spreche \u00fcber die Bedeutung dieses Werks, dieses Mal jedoch als Leiterin eines Workshops. In der Vorbereitung und Recherche daf\u00fcr habe ich viele verschiedene Interpretationen dieser so kontrovers diskutierten Komposition angeh\u00f6rt. Dabei hat sich wieder einmal herausgestellt, welche Aktualit\u00e4t und Wirkung es noch immer besitzt, obwohl seine Entstehung schon fast 70 Jahre zur\u00fcck liegt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"John Cage: 4&#039;33&#039;&#039; \/ Petrenko \u00b7 Berliner Philharmoniker\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AWVUp12XPpU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Diese Aufnahme ist am 3.11.2020 entstanden, also kurz vor der pandemiebedingten Schlie\u00dfung der Berliner Philharmonie. Eine sehr gelungene und ber\u00fchrende Version von 4&#8217;33&#8221;, wie ich finde. Ohne gro\u00dfen Schnickschnack, keine unn\u00f6tige Performance, eine Reduzierung auf das Wesentliche: allein durch seine erhobenen und ge\u00f6ffneten H\u00e4nde setzt der Dirigent den zeitlichen Rahmen, in dem die Komposition stattfindet.<br> <br>Allerdings fungiert das Werk in diesem Kontext als eine Art &#8220;stiller Protest&#8221;. Es wird signalisiert: Wenn die Musiker*innen nicht mehr spielen, h\u00f6rt auch die Musik auf. Dann gibt es &#8220;nur&#8221; mehr Stille bzw. Ger\u00e4usche aus dem Zuschauerraum zu h\u00f6ren. Dadurch entsteht eine klare Differenzierung zwischen den Musikst\u00fccken, die davor gespielt werden und der Nicht-Musik von John Cage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Auch in folgender Interpretation, die am selben Tag in der Elbphilharmonie entstand, wird deutlich: Musik ist es nicht, die erklingt, wenn wir 4&#8217;33&#8221; lauschen.<br><br>&#8220;Auch wenn keine Musik zu h\u00f6ren ist: etwas passiert immer. Diese Idee legte John Cage 1952 seinem St\u00fcck \u00bb4&#8217;33&#8221;\u00ab zugrunde, das tats\u00e4chlich nur aus Pausen besteht. Es lenkt die Wahrnehmung auf vermeintliche Hintergrundger\u00e4usche: das Knacken des Parketts, das Atmen des Nachbarn, das Knistern der Atmosph\u00e4re, auf Zwischent\u00f6ne aller Art. Damit ist \u00bb4&#8217;33&#8221;\u00ab der perfekte (Nicht-)Soundtrack zum neuerlichen Lockdown, der die Kulturszene zwar tempor\u00e4r stummschaltet, aber nicht ihrer Kreativit\u00e4t beraubt.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"#sangundklanglos | John Cages \u00bb4&#039;33&#039;&#039;\u00ab aus der Elbphilharmonie\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MFevsNwMojE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>4&#8217;33&#8221; ist also der perfekte (Nicht-)Soundtrack f\u00fcr einen Lockdown. Seit der Entstehung dieses Werks 1952 und heute, sind viel Zeit und viele Debatten \u00fcber die Bedeutung dieses St\u00fcckes verstrichen. Doch wie man sieht, ist die Frage, ob Stille (die laut Cage in ihrer absoluten Form nicht existiert) Musik sein kann oder nicht, noch immer nicht gekl\u00e4rt. <br><br>Mich interessieren vielmehr die Fragen, die ein Professor von mir einmal gestellt hat:<br>Wenn Stille Musik ist und musikalisches Material sein kann, was kann danach noch kommen?
